I may sound pretty mainstream but The Office (US) is probably the best TV series I’ve ever watched. How I Met Your Mother is a close second. The Office may seem a bit boring at first because it’s set in the same environment every episode, and an office environment isn’t the most exciting place to showcase. What I really love are the characters. They’re developed so well and have such interesting personalities. They’ve managed to turn a boring office environment into something exciting to watch in every episode.

The heart and soul of that office has to be Michael Scott. There are so many words to describe what kind of boss he is but I’ll just use the word “entertaining”. He has noble intentions of trying to be the best boss in the company, however the way he achieves that goal is sometimes questionable. His last appearance as a boss at the end of Season 7 was probably the saddest episode. It’s like the show’s soul had been taken away. But eventually he makes a final appearance at the final episode of the show.

Dwight and Jim’s relationship has to be the most amusing dynamic for me, especially the intro skits before the theme song. The way Jim is always able to prank and fool Dwight is so hilarious, and what makes it even better is the way Dwight reacts to it in his angry, gullible, and serious manner. This duo usually create the funniest problems in the office, and Michael usually has to step in to resolve them (re: make it worse).

Andy Bernard is a character that gets an honorable mention from me. Over the course of the series, you can see his transformations from one of the most hated characters to one of the most responsible and warm-hearted people in the office, who eventually becomes boss. I like to think that Michael’s charm rubbed off on him and you can see it in the way he interacts and bonds with his coworkers in the final seasons. It’s a shame though that his personal life wasn’t as happy as his office life. I silently rooted for him to have a happier life.

Honestly, I could recommend The Office to just about anyone because one way or another it resonates with you, touches your heart, and entertains you in perfect amounts.
