Day 11 — Siblings
I don’t feel like writing much today but I’ll leave you with this.
I had siblings late in life — 2 sisters. My first sister is 9 years younger than me and my second is 14 years younger. I find it hard to relate to them because of our big age difference. It’s been easier more recently with my first sister because as she gets older she learns more so there’s more things we can talk about. My second sister has never been easy to communicate with, she has Down Syndrome. It’s more like interpreting what she wants based on her actions or slurred words. It’s pretty monotonous.
I’m at that stage where I’m really tired of seeing kid’s shows on TV because after my first sister stopped watching, my second came along and started continued the legacy. Having a very young member in the family also has its limitations when it comes to holidays. We can’t plan a packed schedule or mobilize quickly to new places due to the physical limitations a young child has.
Being the eldest has its challenges. Sometimes it’s tiring to concede for trivial matters to the younger siblings. It’s frustrating when you feel your freedom and wanderlust is limited because of your younger siblings. It has however taught me to watch how I behave around my siblings because they see me as a sort of ‘role model’. Being the eldest has also taught me to be more patient, especially since one of my sisters has Down Syndrome, so maybe it has its positives.
But at this stage in life I just want to go out and do my own thing, free of family and siblings.
